John Baptist De La Salle, who was born in Rheims, northern France, in 1651, is the founder of the Institute of Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Brothers), which number about eight thousand members in ninety countries throughout the world. John De La Salle was declared a Saint in1900 and declared Patron of All Teachers by Pope Pius XII in 1950. The brothers have served in Wicklow since 1912. While they no longer teach in the school, they are represented on the Board of Management and they continue to be trustees of the school. More...

De La Salle schools have been in existence for over three hundred years. Today there are De La Salle schools in over eighty different countries; over a million students are taught by some sixty thousand teachers with the support and help of hundreds of thousands of parents. These schools work with every culture, religion, colour, nationality and class. So what then are the hallmarks of a De La Salle school? (nowadays we prefer to use the term Lasallian Education Community!).

What is suggested here, by way of answer, is a philosophy
- a framework which should guide our approach when determining our overall school policy, the specifics of which are rightly the responsibility of each local Lasallian Education Community. It has been developed by the Lasallian Education Team in consultation with all the partner groups: Trustees, Principals, Teachers, Students, Parents and Boards of Management.

Four core values are at the heart of all De La Salle Schools

  1. De La Salle schools are Christian schools where people show care and respect for each other;
  2. De La Salle schools are concerned with the needs of the disadvantaged at all levels;
  3. De La Salle schools are built around partnership;
  4. De La Salle schools offer a quality education to all students.

Board of Management
The school is managed by a Board of Management comprised of a chairperson, two trustee representatives, two parents’ representatives and two teacher’s representatives and the Principal acts as secretary to the Board. The school is funded by the Department of Education and Science and operates within the guidelines set down from time to time by that department.

Aims of the College
The purpose of the school is to give a Christian education to youth, as outlined in the Declaration on Christian Education of Vatican 2:
"The school by virtue of its very purpose, cultivates the intellect with unremitting attention, ripens the capacity for right judgment, promotes a sense of values, and readies for professional life".
The college places strong emphasis on academic achievement and on each student attaining his full potential in examinations. Together with catering for the academic needs of the pupils, each teacher endeavours to foster self-discipline, character development and responsible decision-making.
