AIB & Enterprise Board Trade Fairs On the 12th of April, Mr. Guinan and us, the members of the DLSTY Newsletters mini-company were at the Grand Hotel for the Wicklow County Enterprise Board Mini-company Competition. Each company at the event had a stall which they adorned with pictures, posters, reports and product samples. At the DLSTY stall, we were also handing out samples of the newsletter for people to get a good look at. By 10am the judges were on their way round the room to have a look at our endeavours. Then, each company was given 3 minutes to give an oral presentation about their mini-company. This took about an hour and a half because of the sheer number of companies present. We then stopped for a break while the judges thought about which presentation they felt was the best, taking into account both the presentation and the quality of the products themselves. There were the traditionalist, 2nd and 3rd prizes as well as extra prizes for the different categories such as individuality and finance. Despite our best efforts De La Salle went home empty handed after facing stiff competition. Then on the 20th of April, we attended the Am "Get Up & Go" Trade Fair. This was an all Ireland competition with schools competing from such mysteriously distant locations as Sligo and Maynooth. This was held over two days, and we the underdogs from mighty but underrated De La Salle took part on the first day. This time around, we were given ample opportunity to chat to other students about their corporate endeavours and forays into the business world. We learned a lot from this, it was great to see how other people ran their companies to see how we could better ourselves. We were split into 3 groups of two, and we were rotated around the different activities. This included interviewing other companies, as well as manning our own stall. The judges went around during this period to evaluate our projects and the work we put in. This was followed by lunch, which was provided by Mr. Guinan. We enjoyed this thoroughly (Cheers sir!). After lunch, the judges gathered to give the results. As in Wicklow, we were dealt another blow when we went home empty handed again. Nevertheless, we did have a very enjoyable day. Thanks to all who helped the Newsletter mini-company during the year and good luck to students participating next year. |
