Basketball

On the 17th of May, the Senior and Junior basketball squads travelled to play Gorey C.S. The juniors were up first in what proved to be a tough encounter with very little between the sides. First score went to DLS thanks to Lorcan Smullen who went on to have an exceptional game. The lads went on to win the match with John Jenkinson emerging as top scorer. This was a great achievement for the team, considering the limited pool of players available to De La Salle, compared to a school the size of Gorey.

The seniors were up next, and despite a hard-working performance were unlucky to be narrowly beaten. Top scorer was Damien Mooney while Tommy Earls earned the award of most valuable player.

A skills competition was held after the matches, and it was in this event that the long hours of lunchtime and after school practice really came through for the DLS. Phillip Kirwan won the three point shoot out for the seniors while Andrew Kenny won the Free Throws shoot out for the juniors.

The members of both teams would like to thank Ms. Doorley for her excellent organisation and support throughout a very busy year. Special mention must go out to all the lads who trained so hard during the year especially Phillip Kirwan and Tommy Earls who gave their time to coaching the younger players as well.
