Principal's Address I think you would agree that we had a lively year with many happy days and events to remember. In September, the whole school gave a great welcome to our African friends. We cheered the victorious Wicklow soccer team and gave Daniel Earls (4th Year student) a great send off to Aston Villa Football club. The students raised a lot of money through various activities to help those in need - the people affected by the tsunami disaster, children in a Guatemala Orphanage, the Rehab Foundation and Downs Syndrome Ireland. All students were pleased with their oral examinations in Irish, French, German and Spanish. Great credit is due to their teachers who prepared them so well. Likewise, all the practical examinations in Art, Construction Studies LCVP and Music were very successful and everyone seemed happy. The Orchestra from St. Patrick's Boys National School entertained our junior cycle students. It would be fair to say that the students were stunned to see such talent and confidence among children so young. Solo performances were given by students to demonstrate each instrument. Many thanks to Mr Dunne for organising this treat and good luck to all our own students who have signed up for the Orchestra next year. The 6th Year Graduation ceremony was one that we will not forget. Pat Cronin, Des Earls and David Jameson delivered inspiring and very humorous speeches. All students were presented with a framed class photograph and a certificate. Mark Sexton was awarded Student of the Year, Daniel Dunne, Musician of the year, Des Earls, Sportsman of the year and Ricky Farrell - personality of the year. Presentations were also made to Ms Mary Duffy, Ms Angela Murphy, Ms Elaine McDonald and Ms Kay Carolan for all their work on the Parent's Association over many years. Their work was very much appreciated. Earlier on at Prize giving, Mark Devlin was presented with a plaque for receiving the best Junior Certificate results and Alan Tiernan for best Leaving Cert results. Congratulations to both. Finally may I thank Mr Brennan and all the staff for their support throughout the year and for all the hard work and commitment they showed their students. To the Parent's Association and Students Council who gave so much of their spare time in working for the good of the school, thank you. May I wish all the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students the best of luck in their forthcoming exams. Maria O' Carroll, Principal. |
